Kapu Ki'i Tiki Mug - Custom
Inspired from my visits to Puuhonua O Honaunau (City of Refuge) on the Big Island, Kapu' Ki'i came to be..
Breaking a kapu was believed to incur the wrath of the gods. Hawaiians often chased down an offender and swiftly put him to death unless he could reach a puuhonua, or place of refuge. There he could be absolved by a kahuna (priest) in a purification ceremony, then return home with his transgression forgiven. Defeated warriors and non-combatants could also find refuge here during times of battle.
Only Kapu' Ki'i mug I've made like this so far and digg'n the way it came out..
I gave him a custom carve with a glaze that really sets it off I thought.. The interior has been done up in a speckled red/black glossy lava glaze. There won't be another one exactly like this one...
